How do I turn on BigPurpleTalk?

BigPurplePhone SilverFox

On the BigPurplePhone SilverFox or SilverFox+ Editions, you can enable BigPurpleTalkTM so that it speaks as you touch a phone button, keyboard or a contact. This is found under Phone settings which are accessible from the the Carer's Portal or Manage button.

Click on Settings and scroll down to the entry for BigPurpleTalkTM
The feature is Off when the Toggle is Grey and On when it is Purple.

Does the BigPurplePhone dial 000 or 112?

The SOS button on the BigPurplePhone dials Triple Zero (000) when it is activated.

There is a helpful video here that shows how our SOS feature works https://youtu.be/E203kmLiSD4
Triple Zero (000) is Australia's primary telephone number to call for assistance in life threatening or time critical emergency situations.
112 is a secondary emergency number that can be dialled from mobile phones in Australia. Special capabilities, including roaming, once only existed when dialling 112, however mobile phones manufactured since January 2002 also provide these capabilities when dialling Triple Zero (000) to access the Emergency Call Service.
There is a misconception that 112 calls will be carried by satellite if there is no mobile coverage. Satellite phones use a different technology and your mobile phone cannot access a satellite network.
Important – if there is no mobile coverage on any network, you will not be able to reach the Emergency Call Service via a mobile phone, regardless of which number you dialled.
To find out more about calling Triple Zero (000) from a mobile telephone, visit the Australian Communications and Media Authority website.
The SOS button is located on the top right hand corner of the phone.

3. Scroll to the 'Wi-Fi' Icon on the home menu and Select it. It should appear somewhere below the 'Brightness' Icon and above 'Manage'.

4. You should now see a large title 'Internet' at the top of the page. Immediately below this is a triangle symbol next to a mobile network name, that for you should be 'Telstra' (note: this is NOT below the 'Wi-Fi' section). To the right of this entry, should be a small Settings Cog symbol. Select the Settings Cog.

5. Scroll down on the page until you reach the 'Calling' section where 'Wi-Fi Calling' is an option. Immediately under this it should say 'Call over mobile network' in subscript - this is what we are changing. Select 'Wi-Fi Calling'.

No. BigPurplePhone does not support Memory/SD cards or other external storage devices.
I can get a SIM from a supermarket or other provider for much less, why does BigPurpleSIM cost more?

A BigPurpleSIM plan is very different to other mobile phone plans.

Firstly, there are no lock-in contracts, just pay month-by-month, as you go.

Other providers sell you a SIM and then leave you to fend for yourself with their App and mediocre service. This is not suitable at all for vulnerable people. When you purchase a SIM through us, we activate the SIM and even insert the SIM for you. If you have a phone number you wish to keep, we can arrange to swap the number over to your BigPurplePhone.

We have a 'Help' button on every phone which calls our call centre where we provide technical support. If you choose our SIM then we can also support you with your mobile phone plan and billing without confusing ID verification each time you call, because your phone is already on our system.

The monthly subscription also covers:

○ Unlimited National calls and SMS/MMS*^

○ Internet connection for the BigPurplePhone SilverFox Edition

○ BigPurplePhone Premium Support and Service - Over the phone support so our vulnerable customers do not need to deal with call centres overseas. Because it is a fleet, we don't have the same problems with identifying people either when they call us - a huge benefit for many!

^ Subject to Fair Use Policy and Shipping Policy. Always read the Critical Information Summaries and Terms and Conditions when you buy.

Can a silent number call a BigPurplePhone when Safe Callers List is enabled?
Yes, you can receive calls from silent numbers even when you have the Safe Callers List enabled. It is important the person calling you from a silent number reveals their number to the BigPurplePhone when they call by entering a code before they dial.

Silent number reveal code from mobiles: *31#

For example if their mobile is 0412 345 678 and their number is silent, the Silent Caller would need to enter *31#0412345678 if calling from a mobile for their call to succeed to your Loved Ones BigPurplePhone.

Silent number reveal code from landline: 1832

For example if their landline is 02 9188 6998 and their number is silent, the Silent Caller would need to enter 18320291886998 if calling from a landline for their call to succeed to your Loved Ones BigPurplePhone.
If you have a silent phone number, it will not show up on the phone you call (except for the emergency call service). If you make a call to the Triple Zero (000) emergency call service, your number will always show, even if it is silent. This helps the operator identify the caller.

How to call a BigPurplePhone from a silent number

  1. Ensure your Silent Caller is saved as a contact on the BigPurplePhone
  2. When the Silent Caller calls the BigPurplePhone, enter *31#(mobile) or 1832(landline) first
  3. Then dial the BigPurplePhone mobile number
  4. The call will be received.

Where can I use my BigPurplePhone?

BigPurplePhone’s default mobile network provider is Telstra Wholesale 4G.

If you have a BigPurpleSIM, you can check if your area is covered by using this link Telstra Wholesale 5G & 4G Coverage Map and more information on other Providers can be found on their website/s.
If you use your own SIM, please check with your provider about their coverage.
Does the BigPurplePhone use 3G, 4G or 5G?

No. BigPurplePhone does not use the 3G network.

3G has now been switched off in Australia. BigPurplePhone uses 4G instead — the network with the widest national coverage.

While 5G can offer faster speeds, it’s still limited in many areas and often comes at a higher cost. That’s why BigPurplePhone is built on 4G — for consistency, coverage, and reliability.

In short: no 3G, no gaps — just a strong, dependable 4G connection.

See Telstra Wholesale 5G & 4G Coverage Map for more information.
Can I pay for the phone and the SIM separately?
Yes.
Many people order their BigPurplePhone using their NDIS or MyAgedCare funding, and their BigPurpleSIM using their own funds.

Can I just buy the BigPurplePhone and use my own SIM card?

If you need more information to insert your own SIM, please refer to "How to insert a SIM"

Phone Features

What is BigPurpleTalk?

BigPurpleTalkTM

BigPurpleTalkTM speaks as you touch the phone. For example, as you dial a number the phone says each number as you tap it. It reads the keyboard as you type and it also says the name of a button or the Contact name as you tap it.
This is an innovation that means that people with low vision can more confidently type.
BigPurpleTalk says the word or letter of the dialpad, keyboard or buttonBigPurpleTalk says the word or letter of the dialpad, keyboard or button
Does BigPurplePhone have Facetime?

BigPurplePhone SilverFox

BigPurplePhone SilverFox and SilverFox+ Editions have their own video call feature, similar to Facetime. For the person using the phone it is very simple to use, the call comes in much like a phone call. They can see the face and name of the person calling in a large full screen notification.
There is a useful video here explaining how to make a call from a BigPurplePhone SilverFox or SilverFox+
For the caller, access to the video feature is through our website.
Tip - Our website is also a "progressive web app" this means you can add it to their Home Screen of a mobile phone and it will act much like an app, making video calling even easier.
Video call
Missed video call notification

BigPurplePhone Talk&Text

BigPurplePhoneTalk&Text Editions are not able to make or receive video calls.
How does the "No Scam" feature of BigPurplePhone work?

When the Safe Callers List is enabled, only the Contacts that are saved to the BigPurplePhone can call your phone.

When you set up your BigPurplePhone you are asked if you would like us to block unknown callers. When you select this, Contacts that are not saved in the Contact list are blocked.

Callers that attempt to call the phone and are not on the list are blocked in the same way Telstra stops blocked numbers from getting through (the caller hears the default Telstra MessageBank message but this is not passed on to the user).

Does BigPurplePhone have the Google Play Store or Apple Store?

No, BigPurplePhone does not use either.

However, BigPurplePhone SilverFox and SilverFox+ have a large range of Apps to choose from in the Carer's Website or by using the Manage button on the phone. This allows us to control updates and protect vulnerable customers from automatic payments that are often taken from Apps. It also allows us to minimise and optimise notifications.

We have carefully selected and tested a number of Third Party Apps based on customer feedback; refer to Which Apps are available on the BigPurplePhone? for more details.

There are no third party Apps available on the BigPurplePhone Talk&Text Edition.

Home icons and Contacts can be made even larger

Why have I received a BigPurplePhone invitation?
You have been sent an invite so you can securely video chat, share photos and messages with a Loved One using the BigPurplePhone Family&Friends portal.
BigPurplePhone is secure from spam and phishing because it is a closed network. Some vulnerable people are easily confused by unwanted calls (in fact, so are many people!) so the BigPurplePhone is set up so only people in their secure family and friends' network can call them.
The Family&Friends portal allows you to video call and photo share and it is very simple for your Loved One

What is the BigPurplePhone Family&Friends Portal?

The BigPurplePhone Family&Friends Portal is a free website where you can communicate safely and securely via video and photo share with a loved one on their BigPurplePhone.
Simply click on the personalised link provided in the SMS you have received. This will send you to our website where you can save the app to your homescreen on your mobile phone.
The portal is pre-loaded so you can contact your Loved One. Your Loved One will then also see you in their contacts and can communicate with you through their BigPurplePhone, so make sure you are happy with your profile photo!

What is the BigPurplePhone?

BigPurplePhone is a smartphone designed specifically for seniors who struggle with technology. When you video call them (or they call you) the process for them is very simple - just one click.
The BigPurplePhone is larger than a regular smartphone, and has large buttons and large text. It also has - as we like to call it - no fandangle features. Smartphones are often too complex, unreadable and difficult to use for those with age-related challenges. Often people give up and can become isolated by technology. We created the BigPurplePhone to make communicating with family and friends easier.

What can I do on the BigPurplePhone app?

You can communicate with your Loved One safely and securely via video chat and share photos, a little like your own social network. You can also message your BigPurplePhone and call them as you would normally on your phone, but for them the process is simpler using their BigPurplePhone with big buttons, big text and simpler functionality.

Is the BigPurplePhone safe for me to use?

Yes. It is an end-to-end video chat, photo sharing and messaging app between you and your loved one.

What do I do now to accept the invitation?

Go back to the SMS invitation you were sent from us, click on the personalised link to access the BigPurplePhone Family&Friends portal, complete your profile and get started.

What if I get two or more invitations?

Accept each invitation as they arrive and each Loved One will be added to your portal.

One last thing...

When your Loved One uses their contact list, it is so much better for them if you upload a profile pic so they can see your face when they call you.
When you are added we assign a random avatar of you for your Senior to see when they call you, but a real photo is better. Please upload an image of yourself when you confirm your contact details in the app.
How does BigPurplePhone stop spam calls and text messages?

BigPurplePhone has an optional Safe Callers List which blocks unknown numbers calling.

When you first activate your phone, you can enable the Safe Callers List. This will stop anyone who is not a saved Contact on the phone calling you. Only the Contacts that are saved to the BigPurplePhone can call.

When you set up your new BigPurplePhone make sure to add in all the people that you think will want to call - family, friends, the doctor and the dentist for example.

If a person is not on that list then they cannot get through with Safe Callers List enabled.

What features does BigPurplePhone have for hearing impairment?

Your BigPurplePhone rings at a loud volume (82 decibels, about the same volume as a regular hair dryer) with high quality audio so it's easily discernible.

In addition, all BigPurplePhones are now able to connect to specific Bluetooth devices which is especially handy if the user has a hearing aid with Bluetooth; please refer to the Related Article below.

Most Bluetooth speakerphones (such as the Jabra which you can order on our website) can be used with your BigPurplePhone; we even pair it for you before it leaves our warehouse.

BigPurplePhone Talk&Text

For a BigPurplePhone Talk&Text edition, you will need to locate and tap on the Bluetooth button then search for and connect to your device..

BigPurplePhone SilverFox

Provided your Hearing Aid doesn't need a special app, you or a Carer are able to connect your Speaker or Hearing Aid to your BigPurplePhone SilverFox or SilverFox+ Editions using the Bluetooth button. You will need to have the phone with you to enable the Bluetooth button on the Carer's website (or the Manage button on the phone) then connect your BigPurplePhone to your Bluetooth device.
You can now disable the Bluetooth menu again so the Bluetooth button is hidden again. The Bluetooth connection will remain connected but the Bluetooth icon will not be displayed on the BigPurplePhone so it's not a distraction.
Enable Bluetooth on the BigPurplePhone Carers PortalEnable Bluetooth on the BigPurplePhone Carer's website

If you select a BigPurplePhone SilverFox or SilverFox+ Edition, it can also be set up to always answer on speaker by accessing the Phone Settings on the Carer's website and enabling the Auto Speaker.

What features does BigPurplePhone have for people with low vision?

A Thoughtfully Designed Phone

Accessibility on regular phones often means when text is enlarged, usability is compromised. BigPurplePhone is designed bigger from the start - we haven't just enlarged another design. For people with low vision, BigPurplePhone has big buttons that have high contrast labels, big text and haptic pulse that speaks as you type (see more on BigPurpleTalk below).
It also has VERY simple usability. We have designed each screen so there is one primary task, making the design intuitive. For example, your Loved One can video chat with you and all they have to do is click on one button to call you.
Predictability assists with understanding and usability. Home and SOS are always in the same place for example, and navigation is consistent right throughout the phone.

Icons are bigger and bolder

The BigPurplePhone has BIG menu buttons for simple tasks like Dialling, viewing Contacts, sending Messages, Battery alerts, Notifications and turning a Torch on or off. While the screen is taller and larger than a regular phone it is still only 200g in weight and is as wide as a regular phone, making holding the phone a similar experience to a regular mobile phone, while maximising screen real estate.

High contrast dial pad and larger icons

Full Screen Notifications

BigPurplePhone also has large, full screen notifications for Incoming calls, New Messages, Missed Calls, Voicemails received, Reminders about appointments or medicines and Low Battery so you don't miss out on important information.

Additionally, the SilverFox Edition of the BigPurplePhone has the below additional features designed for better Accessibility and Usability.

BigPurpleTalkTM

Our team has also created BigPurpleTalkTM which can be enabled via the Carer’s portal. BigPurpleTalkTM speaks as you touch the phone. For example, as you dial a number the phone says each number as you tap it. It reads the keyboard as you type and it also says the name of a button or the Contact name as you tap it.
This is an innovation that means that people with low vision can more confidently type with less taps, and without having to “double tap to activate”.

Android Select to Speak

While we cannot control the Accessibility of third-party Apps and websites, the phone font is set to large text as standard so third-party apps and websites show the largest that Android will allow.

Call our support team on (02) 8660-1390 and we can enable this on the BigPurplePhone for you. You will need the phone with you.

Manage your Settings from a Carer’s portal

You can choose to Manage your settings via our Carer’s web portal, or you can do this from the BigPurplePhone. On the Carer’s portal, you or a Carer can see the phone settings more clearly than on a regular smartphone.

If this is not suitable, you can also access the Carer’s portal by enabling the ‘Manage’ button on your BigPurplePhone SilverFox Edition.

BigPurplePhone is not suitable for people with complete vision loss.

What is the difference between BigPurplePhone SilverFox and Talk&Text Editions?

Both editions of the BigPurplePhone are designed for people with cognitive decline or impairment, experience low vision or are overwhelmed by the complexity of modern smart phones.

BigPurplePhone Talk&Text is a simplified mobile phone that allows the user to call or text using picture-driven contact list or large format dial pad. It also has other very basic phone features: SOS, camera, photo gallery, WiFi, Bluetooth and torch. You can also speak your message and your phone will type the text for you. Because it is a smartphone, BigPurplePhone Talk&Text requires a small amount of data to operate – less than 5GB per month or a WiFi connection is required.

BigPurplePhone SilverFox Edition delivers everything the BigPurplePhone Talk&Text does as well as extra optional features: a Web Browser, Radio Stations and a small selected number of third party Apps including Email, Facebook, Google Maps, MyGov, WhatsApp (see Features Table for full list of third party Apps)

Using our free BigPurplePhone SilverFox Carer's Portal, you can also video call and photo share with your Loved One. A Carer or the phone's user can manage the settings of the phone remotely, enable and disable features and add Contacts.

BigPurplePhone SilverFox+ Edition provides all the features of the SilverFox Edition listed above as well as being a thinner, lighter, tougher, faster device with a larger battery as well as allowing wireless charging. It is water resistant and has Dolby Atmos(R) stereo sound.

How is the BigPurplePhone different to other phones?

BigPurplePhone has been developed by a local Australian company especially for people with age related challenges, cognitive and/or visual impairment. It is unlike any other mobile phone - different to a regular smartphone because it is designed for people who struggle with even making a phone call and for those who have lost confidence in using traditional mobiles.

We install our own customised Operating System software over a quality handset so that all the complicated features are hidden and what is left is an easy to use mobile phone with big buttons and large, high contrast text.

Who is the BigPurplePhone designed for?

BigPurplePhone was originally designed for people suffering early stage dementia however there are people with varying needs who enjoy the simplicity of a BigPurplePhone.

- People who are in cognitive decline due to age, stroke or dementia

- People who are not in cognitive decline but have low vision

- People with hearing difficulties

- Parents of younger people and children with cognitive impairment, behaviour disorders or who may be on the autism spectrum

- People caring for others with brain injuries

- People who are overwhelmed by modern smart phones but also need basic smart phone features

- People who have a Carer who is remote to them, so the Carer can remotely manage the phone

Can I upgrade my BigPurplePhone Talk&Text Edition to the SilverFox Edition?
Yes. We can organise an upgrade remotely. You can pay the difference over the phone with us, and if you have the phone already we can arrange for the upgrade to happen remotely with a quick call with our technician.
Each of our two models, while looking the same, operate differently. Do be aware that to change the phone from a Talk&Text Edition to the SilverFox Edition resets the phone back to new, so it is best to do this before your phone is shipped and you enter Contacts and Photos.

How do I use the Carer's Website?

BigPurplePhone Talk&Text

The BigPurplePhone Talk&Text edition does not have access to the Carer's Website but you can access these features by updating your device to SilverFox.

BigPurplePhone SilverFox

If your Loved One has a BigPurplePhone SilverFox or SilverFox+ Edition,

The Carer’s Website on a Big Purple Phone isn’t really a typical app you download — it’s actually a web-based portal (Carer’s Website) that you use on your own phone, tablet or computer to manage the other person’s BigPurplePhone remotely.

Here’s a simple, step-by-step way to use it 👇

🔑 1. Log in to the Carer’s Website

  • Go to the BigPurplePhone Carer’s Website at manage.bigpurplephone.com

  • Log in with the details you were given when the phone was set up

👉 Tip: You can add it to your Home screen so it works like an app.

📱 2. What you can do in the Carer’s Website

Once logged in, you can control almost everything on your Loved One’s BigPurplePhone:

👥 Contacts & Communication

  • Add or edit Contacts

  • Upload photos for Contacts (so they’re easy to recognise)

  • Video call them directly from the portal

⏰ Reminders & Daily Support

  • Set Medication Reminders

  • Add Birthdays or Appointments

  • Create Alarms for daily routines

⚙️ Phone Settings

  • Turn Features on/off (Camera, Weather, Apps, ...)

  • Control what appears on the Home screen

  • Enable safety features like Safe Callers List

📍 Safety & monitoring

  • Use Find My Phone to see location

  • Set Emergency Contacts

  • Manage SOS settings

🎵 Apps & entertainment

  • Add Apps like YouTube, WhatsApp, Spotify

  • Choose Music or Radio Stations

📲 3. Using the “Manage” button (on the Phone)

  • On the BigPurplePhone itself, there may be a “Manage” button

  • This links directly to the same settings as the Carer Website

  • Carers can hide this button if it confuses the user

👍 4. Everyday use (simple way to think about it)

  • You (Carer) → use the Portal to set things up

  • They (User) → just tap big buttons to call, message or view photos

💡 Helpful tip

Many Carers add the portal to their phone Home screen so it behaves just like an App (faster access).

Can I still keep the phone if I cancel the BigPurplePhone service?

Yes, the handset is yours and will still work just as a normal Android mobile.

My phone is cycling on and off. What's going on?
Your phone is attempting to update to the latest version of the BigPurplePhone. Make sure you are in an area with good internet reception so the update will download.
I bought a BigPurpleSIM, why do you have to Identify me?
If you choose to buy a BigPurpleSIM from us, the Australian Government requires us to verify customers' identity for prepaid services, as regulated by the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA)*.
ID checking helps to stop scammers from "SIM jacking" when a criminal gains control of someone's phone number and tricks a carrier into transferring it to a new phone.
Because we are often selling a phone to an Account Holder who gifts the phone to their Loved One, we take extra care to make sure we understand who is using the phone.
We also understand that identifying some vulnerable people is difficult and that there are sometimes many family members involved in caring for your Loved One.

*See the link to the ACMA website here for more information on what is required of us.
What happens after I order the BigPurplePhone on your website?

We are here to help you get everything on the BigPurplePhone setup the way your Loved One or client needs.

If you are going to order a BigPurplePhone with a BigPurpleSIM from us, we will verify your identity and insert the SIM in the handset before sending it. In addition, we can arrange an existing number to be transferred to the BigPurpleSIM at no extra cost.

When you buy a BigPurplePhone to use with your own SIM, we ship your phone to you! You insert your SIM and complete the Registration when you receive the phone.

How do I import Contacts to the BigPurplePhone?

BigPurplePhone SilverFox

Yes, with a BigPurplePhone SilverFox or SilverFox+ Edition you can upload a list of contacts however, we recommend that you enter the Contacts individually for a few reasons:
  1. We suggest you clean up the Contacts as long lists and duplicates are disorienting for vulnerable people.
  2. While there is no limit to how many contacts you can add to the BigPurplePhone, we recommend a list not much bigger than 30 contacts.
  3. Because the Contacts List is visual, with each Contact having a photo, we suggest taking the time to make this as usable as possible for your child or Loved One with nice clear images of their Contacts. You can choose faces, colours, patterns or logos. It’s up to you and what your loved one will find easy to see and understand.
  4. You will need to setup Emergency Contacts, enter Photos and send invites to the App to the family and friends you choose. By the time you have done this, you might as well type their name and number in.
However, some users may be more capable, and comfortable having all their previous contacts imported onto their BigPurplePhone. In which case, this is how to add all previous contacts in one upload:
1. Under Contacts in the manage settings, there is an option to Add Contacts

2. Click on Manage and the following screen appears:

3. If using a computer, once Add New Contact is selected, the user can choose to import contacts using an Excel spreadsheet. This spreadsheet can be downloaded by clicking on the link below the import button or found here >> Sample Excel spreadsheet <<

4. Once filled out, simply upload the completed spreadsheet to import the contacts.

BigPurplePhone Talk&Text

No, you can't upload Contacts to the Talk&Text Edition of the BigPurplePhone. They need to be entered manually and, while this may seem onerous, there are some good reasons to enter contacts manually:
  1. We suggest you clean up the Contacts, as long lists and duplicates are disorienting for vulnerable people.

MyAgedCare and NDIS

Is the BigPurplePhone considered a Support in the new 2024 list of NDIS supports?
Yes. BigPurplePhone is assistive technology, and is listed on the Australian National Equipment Database.
If the participant is unable to use a regular mobile phone due to their disability and requires a BigPurplePhone to receive, send, produce and/or process information as determined by your OT, then it can be covered.
Assistive technology is to assist participants with alternate communication or to access written or spoken communication through electronic or other means. Low-cost assistive technology in this category should be claimed under the line item ‘Low-Cost AT - Communication or Cognitive Support 03_222100911_0124_1_1’ which can be claimed from the Consumables budget.
The following is an excerpt from the 2024 document produced by NDIS " Supports that are ‘NDIS supports’ " page 9
"Communication and information equipment
The provision of assistive products to support communication and information management.
This includes:
• products that help a participant to receive, send, produce and/or process information in different forms
• products that facilitate a participant communicating by language, signs and symbols, receiving and producing messages, having conversations and using communication devices and techniques
• services to assess and prescribe, deliver, adjust and train a participant in the successful use of an assistive product
• maintenance, spare parts and consumable items specific to an assistive product.
Regular mobile phones are considered 'lifestyle related' and are not covered as seen in page on the NDIA document Supports that are not ‘NDIS supports''."
How can I purchase a BigPurplePhone with My Aged Care package funds?
Essentially, you are right: mobile phones such as iPhones are 'excluded', but where they are needed to deliver an 'included' service, then they are an 'exemption'.
BigPurplePhone is not a regular mobile phone, it is GEAT (Goods and Assistive Technology) - limited in it use and is used for communication for those with cognitive, visual, dexterity and age-related decline, medication management, and for SOS alerts.
BigPurplePhone is listed as Assistive Technology on the National Equipment Database and is approved by Indigo Solutions for the Geat2Go goods and assistive technology website for the Federal Government of Australia.
If your client is assessed as needing assistance, then it is at the discretion of your HCP Package Manager to access HCP funds to purchase a BigPurplePhone and accessories. The monthly SIM costs are not covered.
BigPurplePhone provides support to those with cognitive, visual and motor decline to assist with communication, SOS and medication reminder feature.
It provides emergency 24 hour SOS button, is a seniors phone with the option of no spam calls, and a secure social network for video communication with Carers and family. It comes with a Carer's login for Carers to remotely manage the phone.
Attached is a PDF with the relevant sections of the HCP Manual, HCP FAQs and CHSP Manual highlighted.
Can I split the SIM component out of the Monthly Subscription and pay for that separately?

Yes, the BigPurplePhone Monthly Subscription includes two components:

● Monthly Prepaid SIM

● Monthly BigPurpleCare

It is only in some circumstances that you can fund a SIM through MyAgedCare or NDIS.

However, the BigPurpleCare Service may be funded for those who need assistance with their phone and are assessed as such by their Allied Professional or Package Manager.

Talk to our friendly support team about how we can set that up for you, call us on 02 9188 6998 Monday - Friday 9am-5pm AEST
Can my NDIS participant purchase a BigPurplePhone using their NDIS funding?
Yes, a BigPurplePhone is helpful in many circumstances with communication, which is one of the Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADL).
If you are already Plan Managed or Self Managed then you can purchase Assistive Technology through your NDIS funding. Just order and pay online and you can request an invoice to be sent to you to claim with. We can also put the NDIS participant number on the invoice for you.
How do I order using CHSP funds?

Speak to your allied professional about ordering a BigPurplePhone for you.

We have been approved for the BigPurplePhone Talk&Text Edition of the BigPurplePhone to be included in the Geat2Go website.

Geat2Go.org.au allows Allied Professionals to order goods, equipment and assistive technology (GEAT) through the National GEAT provider under the Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP).

How to I order using my Home Care Package (HCP)?
If you are eligible, then your package manager just needs to add your BigPurplePhone to the Cart and, at the Checkout, under "Payment" they can select "Create an Invoice" or "Create a Quote".

They will receive an email with your order confirmation immediately and an invoice or quote will follow shortly after. They will receive payment instructions on the invoice and Shipment will occur upon remittance.
Note you cannot purchase phone or a BigPurpleSIM with your funding.
Can I get a BigPurplePhone using my MyAgedCare Home Care Package (HCP) funding?
Yes. Your Package Manager, Care Manager or Allied Professional can create an invoice for your BigPurplePhone and Accessories here on our website. They process the invoice for you.
Is the BigPurplePhone approved for Support At Home?
Yes! And after 1 July 2025, it is much simpler! Newly assessed MyAgedCare participants needing home care will enter the "Support at Home" Program. This new system will replace Home Care Packages over time.
The new program has a definitive list of Assistive Technology and Home Modifications (called AT-HM). " Adaptive or special feature mobile phones" are on this list. Participants who are assessed as needing assistance with communication will be assigned one of three levels of funding Low - $500, Medium - $2000 or High $15K. This can be spent on items on the list, and if they are assessed as needing it.

Carer, Loved One, Family&Friends – what’s the difference?

Loved One

We use the term Loved One to refer to people who use the BigPurplePhone to indicate that we are aware that they often need extra assistance. We help them to get the best from what may otherwise be a confusing array of technical functions on their mobile phone. By breaking down those barriers, the Loved One is not confronted with menus or the need to swipe left or right, so there’s no jargon involved or as we say, “No Fandangle”.

If the Loved One is capable, they may be able to configure their own BigPurplePhone SilverFox or SilverFox+ Editions by using the ‘Manage’ feature on their mobile; please refer to What is the Manage Button for?

BigPurplePhone SilverFox Home Screen

Carer

This term refers to someone who sets up a BigPurplePhone SilverFox or SilverFox+ Edition on behalf of a Loved One so that they can use it to easily contact friends and members of their family. Using a free website, our Carers Portal at manage.bigpurplephone.com, Carers are allowed to show or hide a number of Buttons on their Loved One’s screen minimising confusion, such as Bluetooth and WiFi.

To ensure their Loved One is more comfortable, the Manage feature can also be used to setup personalised Music, Radio Stations and enable several Accessibility options.

A list of the functions that the Carer can perform remotely are described at What is the Manage Button for?

To make it easier to access the Carers Portal from you Apple or Android mobile, see How to add the Carers Portal to my home screen like an app

People who aren’t involved in setting up a BigPurplePhone for a Loved One but still want to contact them are called Family & Friends. You can access a free website at my.bigpurplephone.com where you can communicate safely and securely by video and share photos with a Loved One on their BigPurplePhone SilverFox or SilverFox+ Edition. This is especially important if the Safe Callers List has been enabled as they will not receive calls from people who are not in their Contact List.

A personalised link to the Family&Friends portal is provided by SMS when the Loved One’s BigPurplePhone is first setup. This link directs you to our website where you can set it up as an app on your home screen of your own mobile phone. If you don’t set this up from the initial SMS, you can have the link resent from the Loved One’s Contact List.

After logging in, you will be directed to the Contact List, as follows:

How accurate is Find my Phone?

Location Accuracy

BigPurplePhone uses Google Maps to locate the handset. While generally accurate, its accuracy can be affected by several factors such as obstructions, weather, interference and the number of GPS satellites in view. If the handset can’t currently find any GPS satellites (such as due to it being inside concrete buildings or surrounded by trees), the location may indicate the previous known position which typically takes up to 30 minutes to refresh however this may be longer due to network connectivity issues.
Please note that we have no control over how the location data is handled or how the position is displayed and hence it should not be relied on in life threatening or other critical situations. The location map should be used as a guide only.
